The heating season is approaching!

The approaching heating season is the ideal time to take care of your home’s heating efficiency. Proper boiler preparation and the choice of high-quality fuel can make a significant difference to thermal comfort and reduce running costs. Below are the most important steps to take to ensure the coming winter is warm, safe and economical.

1. Boiler inspection and maintenance for pellets

The first step in preparing for the heating season is a thorough boiler inspection and maintenance. Pellet boiler manufacturers place great importance on this procedure. It is worth entrusting the work to a specialist who will check the appliance’s technical condition and clean the combustion chamber and flues. Regular maintenance not only improves boiler efficiency but also extends its service life. Neglecting the boiler, on the other hand, creates a significant risk of problems. We wrote about this in a series of articles describing real cases of damage to pellet boilers.

2. Choosing the right pellets for your boiler

Pellet quality is crucial to heating efficiency and boiler performance. When choosing pellets, pay attention to a few basic parameters:

  • Composition and raw material: The best pellets are made from pure softwood sawdust, without chemical additives. Feniks Pellets products naturally meet this description: both the Premium and Gold versions are made from pine wood and have a low ash content. Low ash content means less boiler cleaning is needed. High-quality pellets should have an ash content below 0.7%.
  • Calorific value: This parameter indicates how much energy we obtain from 1 kg of pellets. The higher the net calorific value, the greater the heating efficiency. The net calorific value of pellets should be at least 16 kWh/kg, but Feniks Pellets products currently provide a net calorific value exceeding 18 kWh/kg.
  • Moisture: Pellets with a low moisture content burn more efficiently. Make sure the pellet moisture content does not exceed 10%.

3. Building up a stock of pellets for the autumn and winter season – time to go shopping!

Before the heating season begins, it is worth stocking up on enough pellets. Securing your winter supply will help you avoid problems with fuel availability at the height of the season and potential price increases.

Feniks Pellets offers its Customers special benefits in this regard, including permanent discounts for registered Customers and seasonal price promotions. You will hear about them in our emails once you register an account on our website. By the way: Remember:  store your pellets in a dry, well-ventilated place to maintain their quality!

4. Monitoring your home heating system

Regularly monitor your heating system during the heating season. Check the water temperature in the boiler, the condition of the flues and pellet consumption. Identifying any irregularities early allows prompt repairs, preventing more serious breakdowns.

5. Optimising energy consumption

To minimise heating costs, consider optimising energy consumption. Invest in thermostatic radiator valves that allow precise temperature control in individual rooms. In addition, insulating your home, including draught-proofing windows and doors, will help retain heat inside the building.

6. Environmental awareness

Using pellets as an energy source is both convenient and environmentally friendly. Good-quality pellets are made from renewable raw materials, making them an environmentally friendly fuel. By ensuring proper combustion, you help reduce emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere.
