How much pellet does one need to heat a 100m 2 house?

It depends on several factors. Materials used for construction, tightness of
windows and doors, as well as proper insulation are the most important ones.
The type and power of the stove and the quality of the pellets are of key
importance as well. Good quality pellets and the boiler significantly contribute
not only to reducing exhaust emissions and improving air quality, but they also
affect the amount of fuel used.

A greater expense incurred for the purchase of better pellets will pay off with
interest due to lower consumption, not to mention the fact that the stove is
not exposed to failures.

Taking some averaged estimates into consideration, it can be assumed that one
needs approx. 2-3 tons of good quality pellets to heat a 100 m 2 house during
one heating season.

2. What is the difference between coniferous wood pellets and other types of
pellets?

Coniferous and deciduous pellets differ in colour, density, size of individual
elements and the smell released during combustion.

Before processing, it is deciduous tree that has better calorific parameters and
is more efficient. However, during the pressing and granulation process, the
wood raw material changes its density and it is density that determines, among
others, the calorific value.

Coniferous pellets have slightly better parameters than deciduous pellets.

3. What types of pellets are there?

There are several types of pellets. Types of pellets are classified depending on
the type of biomass they are made of. The basic types of pellets include wood
pellets, straw pellets and sunflower pellets.

Wood pellets are made by pressing various wood residues (both from
coniferous and deciduous trees), e.g. wood shavings and sawdust using
high pressure. Wood pellets’ density is the same regardless of the type
of wood.

Straw pellets - they are produced using residues of crop plants such as
e.g. grains, rapeseed and energy crops. Straw pellets do not produce any
dust.

Sunflower pellet are made exclusively from dry sunflower hulls which
have a high energy value. It is a clean material, without any sand or
harmful substances.

4. Which pellets should not be bought?

The simplest answer is do not buy poor quality pellets. Pellets’ poor quality is
reflected in the combustion (it is usually cheaper, but much more needs to be
burned to obtain the desired temperature) and it can also lead to the stove
damage, and this is a much higher expense. In short - you should buy certified pellets from a proven manufacturer
guaranteeing the highest quality. Feniks Pellets undoubtedly belongs to such
products.

5. How to reduce pellet consumption?

You have to remember about the proper insulation of the building, eliminate
any leaks, not to overheat the rooms (a matter of savings but also health), and
most importantly, use only top quality pellets.

6. Does a pellet stove use a lot of electricity?

Modern pellet stoves are automated devices. They manage the entire heat
production process and are responsible for maintaining a constant interior
temperature without the owners’ supervision. Such stoves are programmed to
operate unattended, and they inform about their work via the Internet module.

How much electricity a pellet stove consumes results directly from the power
of the devices installed and their operation time. How much electricity is
consumed depends on the boiler’s operation of the heat it produces.

In the case of good quality boilers, the daily energy consumption is approx. 0.7
kWh. With such operation, a 15 kW boiler will produce about 90 kWh of
thermal energy.

1.
